Financial Recovery After Divorce - How to Recover Financially from Divorce

Financial Recovery After Divorce

Suffering the financial difficulties of a divorce can be very difficult and very depressing. If you are any kind of a handy person, buying an old fix-er upper home can be used as a stepping stone to get yourself back on your feet. A DIY home remodeling project for the average guy provides details of the restoration project that got me back on my feet.

It started out as a good marriage as all do. Things were good and we had fun. My wife became pregnant about three months into the marriage. I was quite excited. I thought we were on our way to a happy family. Boy was I wrong.

Around my daughters first birthday the marriage turned sour. We split apart and she and the kids stayed at our house while I borrowed a room from my parents. The Judge and lawyers made me financially responsible all the bills while we were split apart. In the end, I was left financially responsible for all the bills we had acquired. Let me say, the bills were way too much for myself to handle. I was forced into bankruptcy.

Once we had divorced and all matters were settled, I had to figure a way to recover and get back on my feet, financially. I spent a lot of time looking for a home to restore / remodel. I bought a couple books on how to financially recover and invest in property. The books proved to be a helpful insight on property investment. I kept looking for the right home and eventually found it.

The house I bought was in a prime location. You know what they say, Location - location - location! There is some truth behind all that. The location was great but the house was not. It needed plenty of work. Using the money I had saved, money from the sale of the marital home and money from a home remodeling loan, I was able to financially afford to purchase and remodel the home. The key is, buy low, remodel cheaply (but with quality craftsmanship) and sell for a nice sized profit.

You might be wondering how I accomplished all that. Well.. Outside of work and visiting with my daughter on the weekends, I had nothing but time to spare. Any extra cash earned was put right back into the house. I set my mind to it and worked on the house every spare moment I had. Friends and relatives were also a big help. Usually, if you ask, someone will be willing to lend a hand.

Here are my tips:

In conclusion...
Divorce is a bad deal know matter how you look at it. Money is tight and you may be feeling a little down on your luck. Owning a remodel project will keep your mind focused on other things and give you a great sense of accomplishment in the end. If you do your home work and study your local real estate market, you are sure to find your stepping stone to financial recovery. Good Luck!
